REMS has three ranks on the leadership team – InCharge (IC), Lieutenant, and Coordinator. The InCharge is an operational rank referring to the provider in command of a scene. The on-duty IC responds in the marked REMS vehicle that carries advanced medical equipment and approves all patient care decisions made during their shift. The IC is an Advanced Life Support provider (an Advanced EMT or Paramedic).
The rank of Lieutenant is given to members of the department who are responsible for managing separate functional areas of EMS and are collectively responsible for the organization's operational, educational, and administrative needs. In REMS, InCharges hold these positions.
The rank of Coordinator is given to active Duty Crew members responsible for a specific administrative area of the organization. Some functional areas also have Assistants who work in a specific area to support education, field training, etc.
