Dr. Cameron Decker

Dr. Decker (Martel ’07) is the Medical Director for Rice EMS and has served continually with Rice EMS since his undergraduate years. He worked as a paramedic to respond to emergency calls, helped plan and manage large-scale events, and served as an educator for Rice EMS students both in and out of the hospital. After completing his residency in Emergency Medicine and a fellowship in Emergency Medical Services at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), he initially joined REMS’s Medical Director team as an Associate Medical Director.

Dr. Decker is an assistant professor of emergency medicine at BCM and faculty at Ben Taub Hospital. He is also currently the medical director of Harris County Emergency Corps, numerous Houston area fire departments, and the Emergency Medical Task Force 6, the state’s regional response network for large scale medical incidents. He is a decorated police sergeant and tactical physician with the Harris County Sherriff’s High-Risk Operations Unit.

Rice EMS is proud to call Dr. Decker REMS our Medical Director and excited to bring his mentorship, expertise, and enthusiasm to this collegiate EMS service. He serves to keep REMS running smoothly by overseeing patient care, teaching clinical skills, and setting a tone for excellence in the delivery of prehospital care for the Rice University community. He is available around the clock to provide emergency medical direction for the on-duty campus crew and is also responsible for reviewing Rice EMS medical cases and charts to ensure the best patient care is provided. Furthermore, he frequently teaches continuing education classes to keep Rice EMTs updated on the latest emergency medicine research.
