Our Services
Rice EMS provides Emergency Medical Services to Rice University and the surrounding communities. These services cover everything from caring for minor injuries to providing life-saving care to critical patients. Thanks to funding from the university, Rice EMS responds to emergencies and cares for patients for no charge.
REMS is ready to respond to campus emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 355 days a year. Furthermore, REMS provides standby EMS coverage at all kinds of campus and university events including public parties, sports games, Beer Bike, and more. REMS also places, maintains, and updates the Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) sites around campus, keeping the Rice community prepared for cardiac emergencies.
REMS takes pride in its active role in educating the Rice community. We currently teach classes at Rice and beyond involving skills such as stop-the-bleed, hands-only CPR, and even BLS and CPR certification. REMS also offers both Basic and Advanced EMT training courses, and is always training new members. Finally, REMS offers numerous opportunities for its members to continue their EMS education through Continuing Education (CE) classes so they never stop learning.
Rice EMS is certified as an Advanced Life Support (ALS) service. Responders are authorized to provide a wide spectrum of emergency care, including advanced procedures such as IV/IO therapy and advanced medication administration. All procedures are governed by a set of protocols and standing orders approved by the physician medical director, Dr. Cameron Decker.
