Lifeguarding and Water Safety Instructor Certifications

Rice's Rec Center offers two courses for those interested in learning about water safety and rescues. LPAP 163 Lifeguarding teaches students the official American Red Cross Lifeguarding curriculum. In addition, students learn first aid, as well as CPR for health care professionals. The course meets three hours per week (times vary) and has a special fee of $30. No credit is offered for students who have not fulfilled their LPAP requirement, and one credit hour is offered for those who have. LPAP 162 Water Safety Instructor certifies students to become Red Cross Instructors for swimming and water safety.
