Rice Adds New Public Access AEDs

The Texas Arrhythmia Institute has donated funding for twenty new Public Access Defibrillators (PAD sites) on campus. AEDs are devices which are used in the event of a cardiac arrest. They can analyze a person's heart rhythm and decide whether or not to apply a shock accordingly. A PAD site is an AED that is available for public use. Often mounted on hallways in high-traffic areas, PAD sites have been credited with saving many lives nationwide. Rice already has PAD sites in Autry Court, Lovett Hall, and the Shepherd School of Music. The locations for the new sites will be announced soon. For more information, see the article in the Rice News.
