Learn About Public Access AEDs

Rice University has thirty Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) sites on campus.  AEDs are devices which are used in the event of cardiac arrest. They can analyze a person’s heart rhythm and decide whether or not to apply a shock accordingly. A PAD site is an AED that is available for public use. Often mounted on hallways in high-traffic areas, PAD sites have been credited with saving many lives nationwide.

Rice University currently has 30 established PAD sites around campus, with plans for more in the near future. AEDs have been placed in high traffic buildings, such as the RMC, McNair Hall, Rice Stadium, Duncan Hall, and the Barbara and David Gibbs Recreation and Wellness Center.  You can click here to view a map of all available PAD sites – click “emergency items on” to see AED locations across campus.

CPR Classes

As part of our PAD site program, Rice EMS offers FREE CPR & AED classes to Rice students, faculty, and staff throughout the summer and the upcoming academic year.  Classes are also open to the public for a fee – for more information, email rems-cpr@rice.edu.  Class schedules will be posted as they become available.  For more information on courses, or to schedule a course for your department, club, or group of friends, email rems-cpr@rice.edu.
